New Collegiate Division
The role of the New Collegiate Division is to provide a place for diverse collegiate experiments unconstrained by those boundaries that separate the several departments and divisions of knowledge. The Division's principal concern is to locate and define coherent areas of study that cut across the familiar academic lines and which can form the basis for a rigorous educational program aimed above all to make the mind inventive and the sensibility exact.
The Division assumes that there are many ways to form such coherences. Each of its programs is specialized in that each is designed to equip students to approach a certain range of problems with advanced competence. Nonetheless, each is developed with a breadth and vision that make the program a liberal education in itself.
