University of Chicago Bookstore
Location: 970 East 58th Street
Specialties: Textbooks for the sciences, mathematics, and recent faculty publications
Managed by Barnes & Noble, the University of Chicago Bookstore sells books, school supplies, and university memorabilia. The bookstore has a discount used book section and buys back text books at the end of the quarter.
Location: 5757 South University Avenue (Chicago Theological Seminary building)
Specialties: Humanities, social sciences and general education course books
Some faculty may order their course texts only at the Co-op. An optional membership costs $30 for three shares of stock (the shares are bought back at the end of the membership). Shareholders receive a 10 percent discount on all purchases and a share of the store's earnings.

The student-run UBE provides space to buy and sell used books. Although primarily for books read in University courses, the store also carries books from personal collections.
Students can sell used books through the Student Government online marketplace.

Location: 1301 East 57th Street
This branch of the Co-op Bookstore specializes in non-academic titles and has extensive selections of children's books, fiction, and cookbooks, as well as a magazine section. Shareholders receive a ten percent discount.
Location: 1539 East 53rd Street
Part of the Borders Group that includes the Waldenbooks chain, this big box bookstore opened its Hyde Park location in the spring of 2004.
Location: 1448 East 57th Street
O'Gara and Wilson buys and sells used books, but has not carried textbooks since 1937.
Location: 1501 East 57th Street
This Hyde Park location is one of several in the City. Powell's buys and sells used books.
